We are very excited to share some updated photographs of a project in Hunterdon County, New Jersey that we completed in 2017. From the beginning, the clients had visions of a lap pool – long and narrow to maximize swimming time before making turns. Through back and forth discussions about how they wanted to use the pool and property we compiled a project wish list that included the following items:
On most projects it makes sense to align the angles of the pool and patios with the angle of the main house. On this project the building setback line prevented that from happening – so we transitioned from one angle to the other with a simple series of bluestone stepping stones in the lawn. We developed a plan that incorporated a long linear alignment of the lap pool and bocce court.
This photo shows the transition from the house angle to the angle of the pool, cabanas and bocce court. The cabanas sit between the 2 spaces, helping to create seperate outdoor rooms.
The view standing at the far end of the lap pool allows you to look thru the cabana space, all the way to the end of the bocce court.
A stone boulder wall helps retain the slope that comes down from the wooded hillside. Landscape lights shine up into the edge of the woods at night to create a soft glow at the perimeter of the pool lawn.
Large bluestone slab stepping stones transition from the lawn to the pool patio. Here you can start to see the details of the two cedar cabana structures that are connected by a simple pergola.
A simple set of steps into the pool creates an uninterrupted area for swimming laps from one end to the other. The cedar plank style cabanas were designed to continue the theme of linear lines on the overall project.
Inside one of the cabanas is an outdoor shower complete with copper rain head and foot wash. Holes drilled into the bluestone patio allow the water to flow thru into the drainage system.

A small patio at the end of the bocce court is the final element at the far end of the project.
